Usage & Grammar: Correctly Using ''Former'' |
Anachronistic language is a common problem, and one sees it all the
time with the use of the word "former."

Usage & Grammar: Active Voice and Passive Voice |
"Use the active voice" exhort Strunk and White—it's their fourteenth
primary principle of composition. Say, "I goofed," not "a goof was
made." We want to know the identity of the perpetrator—the person or
thing performing the action. Since the active voice is shorter and more
direct, it also adds forward momentum and sparkle to your writing.

Usage & Grammar: Don't Use a Plural Pronoun for a Corporate Entity |
Whatever the merits of adopting the plural pronoun in connection with a
hypothetical individual to avoid gender bias—as in "Anyone could have
seen what was going to happen if they'd just thought about it for a
moment"—this idiom should not be extended to corporate entities.

Usage & Grammar: Using the Correct Prepositions with ''Import'' and ''Export'' |
Someone asked me if he needed to say "import into" or just "import to,"
since the "in" is already contained in the word "import."

Usage & Grammar: Placing Modifiers |
Clauses, phrases, participial or prepositional, and adverbs all can
make the task of clear writing and speaking simpler, or they can
increase confusion. Whether they act to clarify or confuse depends on
where they are placed in the sentence.
